Porcelain Crowns

Dental porcelain crowns are one of the most common solutions to restoring the natural look and function of severely decayed or fractured teeth. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that act as a protective and durable restorative treatment, providing you with a long-lasting natural smile.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns protect and restore the size, shape, strength, and appearance of damaged teeth. When teeth fillings are not adequate solutions for severely decayed or fractured teeth, dental crowns are recommended to add strength and coverage to the tooth and to prevent the high risk of further tooth fracture, in addition to restoring your smile's aesthetics and functionality. Dental crowns can be made of different types of materials like ceramic, zirconia, porcelain fused to metal, or gold alloy. Pristine Dental provides the most natural, color-matching solution that blends in with adjacent teeth with porcelain crowns that are also strong, durable, and functional.

Purpose of Dental Crowns

Over time, teeth can become damaged and eroded from natural wear and tear, grinding, and sugary acidic substances. There are several reasons patients require porcelain crowns, including:

  • Protecting damaged or weakened teeth due to severe cavities or gross decay

  • To replace a large filling

  • To strengthen and restore a cracked or chipped tooth

  • Aligning the patient’s bite

  • Protecting a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy

  • Restoring a dental implant with implant crowns

Porcelain Crowns: One of the Most Natural Solutions for Dental Crowns

Porcelain crowns are the most common type of dental crowns in modern dentistry and provide patients with the most natural look. Porcelain crowns are one of the most recommended options for teeth restorations and are easily fit to match the shape, size, and color of the patient’s natural teeth. Another advantage of porcelain crowns is that they are biocompatible and toxic-free – making this the optimal solution for those with metal allergies.

Porcelain Crowns Process

At Pristine Dental, our dentist will prepare the patient’s tooth for the porcelain crown – this can include removing any decay and old restorations or building up the core of the tooth after a root canal is performed. Once the tooth has been prepared, a mold is created to determine the exact shape of the tooth to ensure the dental crown fits properly. While the porcelain crown is being fabricated a temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth. Once the permanent crown is ready to be delivered, the temporary crown is removed and the porcelain crown is cemented over the tooth giving a beautiful and long-lasting result.

Dental crowns are fabricated from digital or conventional impressions of the prepared teeth, followed by a porcelain layering technique to build up the customized dental crown that will perfectly be adhered to the tooth. Dental crowns can also be digitally milled, or 3D printed if they are not pressed.
