What is General Dentistry?
General dentistry is the practice of managing your overall oral healthcare needs, including gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, and other general services. As your general dentist, we can help diagnose and treat your dental needs, as well as treat cavities, infections, and grinding habits. General dentists work as your primary care dentist, preventing and treating oral diseases and conditions.
Restorative dentistry is the practice of restoring your natural teeth by any dental procedure that repairs or replaces one or more teeth. If you have experienced dental trauma and are dealing with a damaged tooth, we can help repair your smile. Sometimes tooth decay is too severe and requires more than just a dental filling to correct your smile; our dentist will treat the affected tooth with a conservative approach and deliver high-quality dentistry to restore your smile.

Teeth Fillings & Bondings: Teeth fillings and bondings are one of the most common restorative dental procedures in General Dentistry for cavity treatments and to repair minimally chipped teeth, eroded enamel, and more. At Pristine Dental, we offer white, tooth-colored bondings called composite or resin, which completely blend in with your tooth and give beautiful, natural results. Learn more

Porcelain Crowns: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits precisely over your tooth and provides function, strength, and stability to your tooth. When a tooth is damaged, whether from a large cavity, filling, crack or has undergone root canal therapy, the tooth cannot withstand the strong biting force and has a high risk of fracturing without the protection of a crown. A dental crown can help protect the tooth from further damage, as well as prevent bacteria from getting inside the crown. Learn more
Porcelain Onlays & Inlays: Porcelain onlays and inlays are delivered when the tooth can be conservatively saved without needing a crown. Porcelain onlays and inlays are generally recommended when large existing fillings and restorations need to be replaced, or extensive cavities are removed, usually covering a large portion of the tooth. A porcelain inlay repairs the biting surface of the damaged tooth, while an onlay protects a larger surface area, including the cusp of the tooth – the raised, pointed portion of the tooth.
Implant Crowns: Implant crowns are connected to implants and sit/emerge from your gums to restore/replace missing teeth. Once the implant is healed and stabilized in your jaw bone, it is ready to be restored with an implant crown. Implant crowns can look like natural teeth and provide the same durability, strength and aesthetics. Learn more
Dental Bridges: Dental bridges are a permanent solution to fill in gaps from missing teeth, providing excellent functionality during eating, speaking, and smiling. If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge can fill those gaps by cementing the bridge with crowns or implant crowns connected on both ends of the gap. Because bridges are permanently cemented, removing the prosthesis like partial dentures is no longer necessary. Dental bridges offer an alternative solution to dental implants when there is insufficient bone structure or for immunocompromised patients with uncontrollable health conditions, such as diabetes.
Periodontal Treatment: Periodontitis is a severe gum disease that damages gums and deteriorates the jawbone. It can be caused by poor oral hygiene and allow a large amount of plaque to build up on teeth and calcify, also known as calculus. Other factors are smoking, hereditary factors, and severe grinding. Periodontitis can create large pockets between the gums and teeth, allowing in more bacteria and increasing the possibility of infection or potentially tooth loss. The goal of periodontal treatment is to thoroughly clean these pockets and prevent further damage to the surrounding bone. At Pristine Dental, we offer a variety of periodontal treatments, including scaling and root planing (SRP), prophylaxis, and Arestin to fight the infection. Arestin is applied in the infected gum pockets once SRP has been performed. Learn more
Scaling & Root Planing: If you show signs of periodontal disease, the first step to preventing further bone loss is scaling and root planing (SRP), widely known as a deep cleaning. Periodontal disease is caused by various factors but the most common factor is the oral bacteria in your plaque, causing your gums and bone to recede from your teeth. This disease can cause large pockets to form between your teeth and gums, allowing more bacterial buildup in places where your toothbrush cannot reach. SRP treatment can help remove the bacteria from these pockets and prevent the harmful effects of this condition from worsening, keeping your teeth and mouth healthy and your smile intact. Learn more
Root Canal Therapy: Patients may need root canal therapy, also known as endodontic therapy, when they are experiencing sharp, hot, or cold lingering sensations, commonly from a deep cavity, a former large filling, a severely cracked tooth, or if the tooth is non vital. These will cause inflammation and infection in the pulp and canals of the roots where the nerves are contained. During a root canal treatment, the dentist will clean, disinfect, shape the root canals and place a filling to seal the space. This process helps eliminate bacterial infections and abscesses and prevent tooth loss. Although some may associate root canal therapy with pain, it is a procedure to relieve dental pain. By saving the tooth, we can keep the treatment conservative and restore the tooth's health.
Tooth Extractions: At Pristine Dental, we prioritize providing conservative, high-quality treatment to our patients and try our best to save your natural teeth. However, there are times when a tooth cannot be saved, and an extraction is recommended. Patients will be fully anesthetized during oral surgery like extraction procedures, and we will apply pain management techniques to ensure maximum comfort. Wisdom teeth extractions are commonly recommended depending on how they grew in and if the sites are causing heavy food impaction, have deep decay, or have a high risk of gum infection. Bone grafts can be followed by extractions and completed on the same visit.
Nightguards: Many patients grind or clench their teeth while sleeping and most are unaware of even doing so, while others may notice during the day as well. Grinding (bruxism) and clenching are brain-triggered parafunctional habits that cannot be controlled. These habits will slowly show signs of enamel wear and expose the underlying layer called dentin. Tooth sensitivity is followed and tooth fracture is a common result as the tooth weakens. Grinding or clenching can also lead to soreness and fatigue of the jaw muscles, jaw joint clicking and popping, headaches or migraines, and TMD (temporomandibular disorder). A nightguard is an excellent conservative approach to deter further damage to your teeth and relax the muscles and TMJ. A plastic dental appliance is customized to your top (or bottom) teeth to comfortably provide teeth protection and pain relief from grinding and clenching. We recommend getting customized nightguards early on.
Dentures: A denture is a removable appliance for missing teeth placed over your gums. Denture teeth can look natural and offer the aesthetics of your natural smile. There are two types of dentures available – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all teeth in an arch are missing and can be either conventional or immediate dentures. Conventional dentures are fabricated when the soft and hard tissues are fully healed after the teeth have extracted, while immediate dentures are made prior to the extractions and can be delivered on the day of surgery. Partial dentures are a great option when natural teeth partially remain. All types of dentures are fully customized to your gum shape and therefore provide comfort and the ability to chew, eat and speak normally.
